When I style myself and select what clothes I am gonna wear each day, I never think: is this "at the moment" or trendy enough?
I might think: is this fun? Is this new? Is this me? But I never put on something just because it's trendy right now. And often, when you are a fashion blogger, people assume that you are a slave of trends. I admit that I might be a deep believer in fashion, in the art of dressing. But trends? No.
I look at trends and I steal elements that I like from recent runway shows and magazine spreads and then I try to make them my own. Often I steal these elements(may it be a pattern or material or color) without even being concious of the theft myself.
The baroque pattern is a current trend I really do love, such a fun pattern which makes dresses (like the one I'm wearing here) almost seem three-dimensional. I think it was Dolce Gabbana, wasn't it? Who showed a collection of baroque-patterned skirts and dresses? And then it quickly showed up in the collections of several different designers. Now, let's see if it filters down through the department stores and then trickles on down into some tragic "casual corner" where someone accidently fishes it out of a clearance bin.
(Yes, I just had to go there.)
More of this outfit to come later on.
XOXO

this looks amazing cant wait to see all the photos! I think im going to have to invest in the dress/skirt! I know what you mean about the trends thing, i dont do everything thats "in" i also take elements and make it my own, which is the right way to do it i think? You look stunning in that photo! You have such a beautiful colour of eyes :)

Love your outfit - I agree I'm not always a slave to trends!
ReplyDeleteBtw who designed your site - it looks fab!
I think that blindly following trends does not a stylish person make. I don't mind if others want to follow trends but I don't just because something is popular. I don't believe in the whole trendy and passe mentality. If I like it I'm going to wear it.
