So here comes part II of my "A Word About Us Fashion Bloggers" series, responding to those questions I get frequently from, usually male middle-aged, critics. You can see the original post HERE.
My repsonse to question number two:
"So, what does one do as a 'blogger'? Put nice clothes on and snap some photos of them with your phone?"
This is probably the most annoying, but also most frequent, question I get asked from people who obviously know nothing about the work that goes into the most successful fashion blogs. I mean I am only speaking from own experience, with my blog, but every post, every photo you see published on my blog is deeply thought-through and analyzed.
Some of this probably has to do with the fact that I am an overanalyzing perfectionist and sometimes I might analyze things too much and too long and I also tend to take ages to decide "which photo should be first in this post?"(a dilemma a lot of you other bloggers can relate to, I think?). But my point is, I never just throw something on in the morning and then snap some photos of this outfit with my phone and that ends up being the content of my blog. And ask any fashion blogger and they would probably say the same thing: we want it to look effortless, the result is not meant to appear too "prentetious", then we've failed, but it is all planned, ever single detail is sorted out and put together and thought through, at least speaking on the behalf of how I work and produce posts.
Side note: this is also why I get a tiny little meltdown inside of me each time I oversee someone at school, or another public place, scrolling through my blog in the speed of light, not even stopping to look at one picture and the details of it, and I always have to restrict myself from going mental and telling them: "Hey I have spent time on that, stop and look at it for a moment!". I would never do that though, and you guys are totally allowed to scroll through my blog like that if you want to, I do it myself with many blogs just to get my daily fix.
And so when someone asks me if my blog is filled with new outfits shot with the camera I have on my phone, I get insanely frustrated. Because what if the real world actually thinks that we 'fashion bloggers' are snapping photos with our phones that we later publish on our blogs and then influence young girls with these photos? And how could we get so much success, sponsor items and money from doing something anyone could do? How?! No wonder the world thinks we're a bad influence, shallow and superficial.
But that's not the truth, at least not in this blogger's case. And surely not in the cases of the 100 blogs I follow daily on Bloglovin' either.
Fashion bloggers are photographers, stylists, marketers. Don't reduce a big industry into something "anyone could pull off".

Absolutely agree with you! A lot of people say: "I'm gonna start a blog too! I want free clothes." Ugh, as if that's the reason to start blogging... They don't understand how a blog can be a serious part of someone's life. Frustrating!

Indeed, very well said! The only thing that angers me is the fact that some very popular bloggers are reaching higher and higher levels because of their looks and not their style, which is the main part of any blog.
